The Benefits of Baby Hammocks

The Benefits Of Baby Hammocks

By Matt Jackson

A baby hammock is literally a small hammock that is designed for baby to sleep in. They have progressed from having a minor cult following to being a popular option for parents and carers alike, with many saying that the baby hammock has helped them to get a full night's rest while being confident that their baby is sleeping safely and securely. The usual design for a baby hammock is such that it hangs from the ceiling on a wooden pole and the hammock itself is made from natural breathable fibers. A futon mattress is then inserted into the hammock so that baby is completely comfortable while resting.

A Special Baby Sleeping Hammock

Despite popular belief, a baby hammock is not identical in its design to an adult hammock and although they may appear similar at first glance, baby hammocks have been designed specifically for the needs of young children. It is meant as a place for baby to get some rest and ultimately to fall asleep and slumber through to morning.

Thoroughly Tested Hammocks

Check the weight limit on a baby hammock especially if you are thinking of buying one for a slightly larger or older baby. Hammocks should have been tested thoroughly and stringently to ensure that they will not only hold that weight but will continue to do so for many years to come.

Reducing The Risk Of Cot Death

Incidences of cot death have been proven to be higher in babies that sleep on their stomach and the baby hammock is specially designed to ensure that your baby cannot roll over off their back. Do ensure that you buy a proper baby sleeping hammock otherwise it is likely to be little more than a scaled down version of a string hammock and not only can this prove uncomfortable but also dangerous for your child.

Hammock Material

Check the material that the hammock is made from too. Natural material is preferred and if it is a hard wearing, durable material then all the better. The material should comfortably hold baby's weight without too much strain. It should also use strong enough clips or springs that they won't snap and these are often covered over too.

Sleep Filled Nights

A properly designed baby hammock works in various ways to ensure a proper and lengthy night's sleep for baby. The hammock will spread your son's or daughter's weight more evenly so there is less pressure on any single part of the body. The cradled feeling this offers is similar to being held by a parent and will make baby feel more relaxed and a lot more comfortable; therefore they will be more likely to fall to sleep and stay asleep.

Rhythmic Swinging

Gently swinging the hammock can help to settle a restless baby and it can put otherwise wakeful babies back to sleep during the space of the night. As baby gets a little older and begins to wriggle and move around while in bed then they will create this gentle and rhythmic swinging motion themselves so they will start to rock the hammock as they begin to stir.

My Urban Child offers a full range of Hushamok baby hammocks that are designed to provide baby and parents with a long and undisturbed night's sleep.

A bassinet is one product that your baby should always have while sleeping. This product has different uses but the challenge is which one to purchase. There are different factors that you need to consider when buying this bed.

This certification will prove that the bed is safe for your new bundle of joy. This body also ensure that there guidelines on how to use this bed are attached on it for parents who have no idea of how to use it.

When selecting a bassinet, you have to go for one that has different features like a rocking mechanism, music system, a mobile, underneath storage basket, canopy and so on. There are those that have removable base while there are those that have wheels. According to your needs, you need to look at these features so as to select on one that will cater for them.

You also need to consider the sturdiness of a bassinet. This is to ensure that the bassinet won't move when your baby is inside and possibly sleeping. To accomplish this, the bed should have a locking mechanism on the wheels if it's a mobile bassinet. This will insure your child's safety. You also need to consider the age of your child, size as well as weight. This is because there are different types of bassinets on the market which have different size and weight limits. In case you are planning to keep it next to your bed or want to push it around when taking a walk, you have to look at its height so as to establish if it is comfortable for you or not. Also, the width is important as some bassinets aren't able to squeeze through an average doorway.

Another factor to consider when buying this bed is additional products or baby bedding. You should select one that comes with a pad or mattress and that you should not add any other things like extra padding or pillows on this bed, this may cause suffocation. To ensure that the bassinet is clean, you have to select one that has removable bedding. This will help when washing them to enhance your baby's comfort. While cleaning the other bedding, you need to replace them with an extra blanket and bedding so be sure to pick up an additional bedding set.

When choosing a baby bassinet, it's important to keep in mind your particular baby's needs and make sure you remember to purchase some additional bassinet bedding as a back up.

Prams or Strollers

Baby Products Guide - Buying Essential Baby Accessories

Baby Products Guide - Buying Essential Baby Accessories

By Miriam Gorecki

As a parent, we're constantly bombarded by advertisers telling us we need this item and that item for our little ones. In most cases, these products are good and handy to have, but they're not essential baby accessories at all. One of the key items you should have is a baby stroller or pram. What should you look for when shopping around? Let's take a quick look.

Prams Or Strollers

There are so many strollers on the market and their prices vary depending on what your budget is. While some can fit more than one child, others have attachments available.

Most strollers will come with 3 or 4 wheels these days. Which is better? Well, the 3 wheeled prams are normally good when you're taking your infant outdoors or along for walks. However the thing to note is that the 3 wheelers are much wider at the back compared to the 4 wheelers, so you might have some trouble getting the pram through narrow doorways and do require a larger car boot in order to fit, so take note choosing which type to purchase.

There are many additional that come with different brands of strollers. The most important factor here is that whatever accessories you decide to buy, your first priority is the baby's safety. Always ensure that your baby is able to lie flat down and if possible facing you when you push the pram. Make sure that the whole stroller is sturdy and well made as well as safe and comfortable.

Other factors to consider are the following:

- The stroller should have well-working brakes and no areas where a baby might jam his or her fingers into.

- All modern prams have a safety strap to prevent the whole thing from accidentally rolling away.

- Construction of the stroller should be light, easy to lift and collapse or foldable and can fit easily into the back of your car.

Strollers are usually lighter and therefor more unstable compared to prams. Thus they're only suitable for babies over 6 months old. Finally, as a precaution, never let your a child to climb on top of a stroller, it can be extremely dangerous. Also, be mindful and never leave your baby unattended in a pram or stroller.

Shopping for accessories

Natural, Organic Baby Accessories - Top Rated Items, Where to Find Them and How Much Do They Cost?

Natural, Organic Baby Accessories - Top Rated Items, Where to Find Them and How Much Do They Cost?

By Paula Tapner

Parents of young children are faced with a dizzying array of choices when it comes to shopping for accessories. Whether it is something as basic as a mattress for your baby's crib or perhaps a baby sling to carry your baby in, it is difficult to know which mattress or sling to get. One of the first decisions that a parent needs to make is fairly simple. Choosing natural, organic products that are free of harmful chemicals is a good place to start. Many rashes and skin irritations that babies suffer from can be directly linked to chemicals used in manufacturing of baby products.

So, after making the decision to try to eliminate chemical irritants by purchasing natural, organic items, the search for the best natural, organic products begins. One way of finding out if a particular product you are considering is ranked well is to look at Amazon. Many of their products have star rankings that let you know if people who have purchased this item are pleased with it or not. A four or five star rating along with favorable reviews is a good indication that the product you are considering is worth the investment. There is also a detailed product description that will tell you about fabric content and other important information. To make a purchase even more enticing to a perspective buyer, Amazon often offers free shipping which can be a substantial savings if the item is heavy.

There is an old saying that states, "You get what you pay for." When buying baby accessories, the natural, organic items will often cost more than the disposable or cheaply manufactured products. However, when you take into consideration the absence of chemical irritants, the reduced chance of harmful rashes or breathing problems, and the assurance that you are making the healthiest choice for your child, the extra expense could be considered an investment in your child's well-being.

Top rated accessories [http://organicbabyme.com] are reviewed on this site and give links to the best crib mattresses, crib pads, baby slings and fitted crib sheets.

About Me

Hello,  I'm Kate and at this stage you won't know me from Eve and I very much want to be part of your life at this  early period  of your parenthood.

I never thought I would be talking about babies  again and what they wear and what they need etc.
But yes, here I am at the grandmother stage.  I have four grown children, two of which have ventured into parenthood. So now I have 3 lovely grandchildren, the last one is just 9 months old.  Helping my youngest daughter with her boy's needs from the moment he was born has been an interesting journey.
She was very fortunate to be given lots of baby items to start but then the time comes when we had to look at purchasing clothing etc.   Where would we go to get the best and also at an affordable price.

This got me thinking because we spent a lot of time searching the internet and the shops to get what we wanted.  I then decided that I would offer parents with new babies especially the first one, a site where they could come and check my reviews because as you probably know, buying on the internet means you are not actually in front of the item, feeling it, checking out whether it is well-made....

My aim is to provide you with all the information you need to feel confident to purchase without physically seeing it.
